The Management of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI) has hosted and celebrated its victorious athletes who recently represented the institution at the Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) competition held at the University of Jos.
Receiving the team, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatunde Omojola, alongside the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research), Professor Olu Aturamu, commended the athletes for serving as worthy ambassadors of the University. He praised their resilience, discipline and creativity, describing their outing as a true reflection of determination and strong team spirit.
The Vice-Chancellor also lauded the coaching crew and members of the University Sports Committee for providing purposeful leadership and direction.
Prof. Omojola charged the athletes to continue striving for excellence both in their sporting engagements and academic pursuits. He emphasized that sports remain a vital component of balanced education, noting that participation in national competitions enhances students’ confidence, leadership capacity and exposure. He reaffirmed Management’s resolve to further strengthen sports development in the University through improved support systems and upgraded training facilities.
Speaking on behalf of the team, Dr. Margaret Oluwayemi, who doubles as the Acting Head of Department, Human Kinetics and Health Education, expressed appreciation to the University Management for its staunch support before, during and after the games. She applauded the athletes’ unity, commitment and dedication, which earned BOUESTI an impressive 18th position out of 97 participating universities.
The BOUESTI contingent clinched a total of four gold, one silver and three bronze medals at the competition. The highlight of the reception was the decoration of the athletes with their medals by the Vice-Chancellor, in recognition of their outstanding performance and service to the University.
