Professor Andrew Babatunde Omojola was born on August 14, 1962, in Usi-Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State. Professor Omojola’s journey is rooted in discipline, purpose and a lifelong devotion to knowledge. His formative years at Notre Dame College, Usi-Ekiti (1976–1980) laid the foundation for a career defined by diligence and intellectual curiosity.
In 1984, he proceeded to the University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s premier university, where he earned a Second Class Upper Division degree in Animal Science in 1988. He followed this with a Master of Science degree in 1991 and crowned his academic preparation with a Doctor of Philosophy in Animal Science in 1997, all from the same distinguished institution.
Professor Omojola began his academic career as a Lecturer II at the University of Ibadan in 1997. Through scholarly rigour, pedagogical excellence and unwavering commitment to service, he rose steadily through the ranks, attaining the prestigious rank of Professor in 2011. A specialist in Animal Products and Processing/Food Safety, his work has strengthened the interface between science, food security, and public health.
A Registered Animal Scientist, Professor Omojola is a respected member of leading professional bodies, including the Animal Science Association of Nigeria, Nigerian Society for Animal Production, Nigerian Institute of Animal Science and the American Society of Animal Science. He is also a Fellow of the College of Animal Science of Nigeria, a mark of professional distinction and peer recognition.
His academic influence transcends national borders. He served as Visiting Professor at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana from 2013 to 2019, and as External Examiner to reputable universities, including the University of Calabar (2012–2016), Osun State University, Osogbo (2015–2018) and Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, contributing to quality assurance and academic standards across institutions.
Within the University of Ibadan, Professor Omojola’s record of service is both extensive and exemplary. He served as Head, Animal Products and Processing Unit in the Department of Animal Science for over two decades (2000–2023); Director, Teaching and Research Farm (2016–2018); Dean, Faculty of Agriculture; Chairman, Committee of Deans, Head of Department and Director of Directorates/Centres; and a Member of Senate since 2011. Each role he occupied bore the imprint of purposeful leadership and institutional advancement.
A prolific scholar, Professor Omojola, has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, contributing significantly to the global body of knowledge in animal science and food safety. In recognition of his scholarly stature, he delivered the 570th Inaugural Lecture of the University of Ibadan on December 12, 2024, a testament to a career marked by research excellence and intellectual leadership.
Beyond the lecture halls and laboratories, Professor Omojola is a man of refined interests. He finds joy in gardening, photography, and reading, pursuits that reflect patience, creativity and a reflective mind.
